He often did painting projects for neighbors at a young age. As he got older he loved automobiles- working on them, restoring older cars, teaching his children how to drive, maintain pride of ownership in vehicles they owned. In San Diego he bought an inboard 20ft. boat that was used for many water activities: from fishing to helping his children learn how to water ski. He was very handy around home maintenance projects, a real do-it-yourself man who researched to learn how to fix almost anything. He and Arlene made sure their children had music lessons and learned how to swim at young ages in Sacramento. He enjoyed playing saxophone in community and work-related groups. He loved to surf the internet and enjoyed learning about investment strategies. He and Arlene loved to go on cruise ship adventures with family and friends. When they retired to Palm Springs, Archer took flying lessons as he wanted to become a pilot and purchase an airplane, which he did, and they and other family members flew in his four seater plane on trips from California to Wisconsin, and Albuquerque. About a year after Arlene passed away in 2009, Archer started spending time with a neighbor in the Seal Beach condo complex he purchased with Arlene upon their retirement, which provided a respite from the Palm Springs summer heat. This neighbor, Brooxie O’Bryant, provided Arch with companionship which allowed him to continue enjoying cruise ship travel, and bus trips to casinos, driving to the Grand Canyon, as well as watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on television. Brooxie moved to Texas to be with her daughter yet she and Arch continued to talk daily and maintain their friendship. What he’ll be remembered for: Archer was a very good husband, father and family man. He had strong mid-western values. He left Wisconsin after graduation from Engineering school, as his dream was to move to California and work in the aeronautical engineering field. He enjoyed returning to Wisconsin to be with family in the summer and loved having them visit him in California. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was thoughtful and kind, and had a strong willed character that his family and friends appreciated. As he aged he still had a quest for knowledge and yet could also find comfort sitting back and watching old Western tv shows on his big screen television. He continued to find comfort in the many visits his children, family members, and friends made to Palm Springs to spend time with him.
