On Sunday, May 27th 2018, Alvino Cantu Minjares, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 86. Alvino was born on January 29, 1932. He was preceded by the death of his father, Gilberto Sanchez Minjares and his mother, Bertha Cantu Minjares. Also two sisters, Elodia Lara and Yolanda Fernandez. He is survived by his wife, Linda Susann and their children, David Andrew, his wife, Jeannie, Daniel Edward and his wife, Jenee, her daughter, Jessica Martinez, Melinda Ann Minjares and Grandson, Daniel Edward Minjares, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He served in the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954. He was trained in Signal Corp., but worked as a Pipeline Engineer in Inchon, Korea as Corporal and Acting Sargent. He received an Honorable Discharge after the war.
On April 28, 1957, he married Linda Susann Diaz. And they lived in San Jose. He worked in Electronics for several years with Litton Industries and Lockheed in the capacity of Electro-plater and Supervisor. Later in life he, and his wife, owned and was the Administrator of a Residential Care Home, Horizons Unlimited Inc., a home for the elderly also in San Jose.
Alvino had a passion for family and loved cooking for them on holidays and birthdays. He also enjoyed membership with SIRS, Seniors In Retirement where he worked with the membership committee. He was an active member, along with his many friends, of the Fiesta Club where he was the Treasurer for many years.
To his children he was their rock, their confidant and "Go to" Dad whenever they needed advice. He will always be remembered for his kind and compassionate spirit. He never wanted to be the center of attention but he perpetuated a beautiful legacy of love to them.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 23rd at 11:00 am. At Evergreen Valley Church, 2750 Yerba Buena Road, San Jose, CA 95121. His last resting place will be at San Joaquin National Cemetary in Santa Nella, CA
