Anthony Walter Schmidt

Anthony Walter Schmidt, 73, of Walla Walla, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of July 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on December 29, 1952, Anthony dedicated more than 30 years of service as Food Manager at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. He was known for his strong work ethic, commitment, and reliability, taking great pride in both his career and his ability to provide for his family.

Outside of work, Anthony enjoyed collecting coins and comic books. He appreciated the history, artistry, and stories behind each addition to his collections and found joy in pursuing these lifelong interests. Above all, he treasured spending time with his grandchildren, creating memories with them and taking pride in watching them grow.

Anthony will be remembered as a hardworking, dependable, and devoted man whose greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and proud grandfather. His quiet strength, unwavering love, and steadfast commitment to those he cared about will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marian Schmidt; his children, Bruce Cakebread, Derek Schmidt, and Traci Schmidt; and his cherished grandchildren, Jaden, Karsten, and Wade. He also leaves behind extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

Anthony was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Francis Novak, and his father, Lawrence Schmidt.

In his final days, Anthony was lovingly cared for at home by his family. Though illness gradually took away his ability to speak, it never diminished the love that surrounded him. He passed peacefully, comforted by the presence of those who loved him most.

The family finds comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended and that the values he lived by—hard work, dedication, loyalty, and love for family—will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.

"His work is done, his pain is over, and his love remains with us always."
