Resident of Foster City, Arley Gaines was born Oct 1, 1929 in St. Louis and died in hospice care at home on Jan 6, 2016.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Karen Gaines, and his children Myrna, Carol, Jennifer, and Tom; their children, Brian, Erika, Katie, and Adam; and two great grandchildren, Evie and Liam.
A Purple Heart recipient, Arley proudly served his country in the Korean War as a Sergeant in the Army paratroopers in 1950 and 1951. He attended the University of Chicago and graduated from the University of Texas in El Paso.
In 1990 he retired from Lockheed in Sunnyvale and before Lockheed, worked at Westinghouse, Aerojet General, Thiokol Corporation, and White Sands.
An ordained minister, Arley taught meditation and Kriya yoga philosophy more than 40 years to many students on behalf of the Center for Spiritual Awareness.
A memorial service is planned for March 2016 as well as a formal military ceremony and scattering of ashes at sea.
