Barbara L Segress

Barbara L. Segress, 83, of Fresno, California, went home to heaven in May 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Barbara lived most of her life in Fresno and Clovis, born on April 27, 1943, to Robert and Christine Segress. Her deep love for Jesus allowed her to dedicate her life to loving and caring for the people around her, including her long career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Her way of engaging people that caused them to feel heard, known, and loved continued through the end of her life.

She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1961 and worked as a dental assistant for a time before having children. Once her kids were in school, she attended Fresno Pacific University for her bachelor's degree and Fresno State University for her master's degree, before starting her private practice as an LMFT. She continued in private practice successfully for 40 years until her retirement. Additionally, due to her lifelong love of learning, she studied naturopathy and taught part-time at Fresno State.

Barbara’s love for our Lord and for her family meant that praying for each of her beloved children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and dear friends was a priority every day. She was gifted and had a passion for music, especially singing, which she enjoyed as a part of various singing groups and church choirs throughout her life. She also adored being in nature, both the mountains and the ocean, and visiting as many lighthouses as possible. She loved driving around parks and lakes with her family, listening to the animals and the water, always taking time to pause and enjoy God’s creation.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Darlene Christiansen of Fresno, and her grandsons, Timothy and Joshua Christiansen; additionally, by her son, David Johnson, his wife Heather, and her grandchildren, Aden, Elizabeth, and Sophia Johnson. She is also survived by her siblings Bob, Cheri, and Bonnie Segress.
