Barry James Hildebrand beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend passed April 19, 2025 at home in Rancho Palos Verdes surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 1, 1933 in New Orleans Louisiana, to his parents, William John Hildebrand and Carolyn J. Scheffel-Hildebrand.

Barry graduated from Tulane University, located in New Orleans Louisiana, receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering and then his master’s degree from UCLA. Barry moved to California in 1955 where he was hired at Hughes Aircraft as an Aerospace Engineer. In 1960 he began working for TRW Systems located in Redondo Beach, California where he was employed for over Thirty years.

Barry is survived by his loving wife Judy, his children, Greg, Keith, Scott, Kelly and Kyle, his thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Barry and Judy married in August of 1966 at Wayfarer’s Chapel in Palos Verdes and moved to their present home where they have resided ever since.

Barry has been a pillar of the community volunteering his time with Junior Achievement, Little League, AYSO, YMCA, Boy Scouts, Miraleste Library Committee, P.V.U.S.D School Board Member, RPV Traffic Committee, Ladera Linda Home Owner’s President. Barry also helped to form EPEC (East Peninsula Education Council) to save schools, a Norris Theater usher, and a math club tutor for the inner-city youth.

His love for Jazz lead him to create his own jazz band in college which led him, in his retired years, to become a member of The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band where he played trombone.

Barry was with Bristol Hospice during the last year of his life. He received wonderful care from them as well as his wife Judy, his daughter Kelly and his favorite granddaughter Alexis.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Tulane University in New Orleans in Barry’s honor or The Assistance League of San Pedro/ South Bay.

As per the wishes there will be a private celebration with family.
