Obituary for Betty Lou Jackson -
Betty Lou Jackson was called home, by her Lord and Savior on October 29, 2013, at the age of 81, surrounded by her family, praying and holding hands. She was born in West Plains, Missouri, on February 28, 1932, and is survived by her two children, daughter and caregiver Bonnie Brown 60, and her youngest son, Richard Jackson 50. Her beloved son, Stewart Jackson thought of often, and missed by all, passed away in June of 2011, at the age of 56. Stewart is survived, by the mother of his children, Pamela Crone, who Betty held dear to her heart, as one of her own. She was survived by six grandchildren, Tonya 43, Antoinette 33, Jeremiah 28, Justin 25, Jackie19, and Danielle 16, seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Brown 21,Joseph 12, Chris 10, Nick 5, Samuel 3, Gunnar 7-wks,and Adam 4-mos, one great-great-granddaughter, Kaydence Brown1-1/2, who as the last girl born, has gifted our family, with four generations of female descendants. Betty was preceded in death, by her parents, Richard (Rich) Turner and Etta Hopkins, brothers Jim and Cotton, sisters Rita and Wilda, and of course, her dearly loved, and eldest son Stewart.
The only child still living at home,Betty enjoyed life growing up, alone with her parents,on their farm in West Plains, Missouri. The youngest of 5 children, she loved to dance, listen to country western music, and ride horseback. She was adored by her father, who appreciated, her rich zest for life. They would frequently, race home on horseback, at the end of the day, vying one another for first place, something she spoke of… fondly and often. She moved to Los Angeles in 1950, living with eldest sister, Rita and her husband, after graduating High School in 1949.There she met and married her first husband, Donald Stakes, giving birth two years later, to her only daughter in1953… and then her first son in 1955. In 1960, she married her second husband, Virgil Jackson, and gave birth to her last child, and second son, in 1963. She remained married to Virgil, for over 50 years, until he passed in May of 2012.
Throughout this time, she was a loving mother, and full-time house wife, a dog groomer, co-founder of a trucking company, business partner with her daughter for 16 years; successful real estate agent, weekly food bank volunteer, and great cook the year round! For ten of these years, she opened her home for the holidays, offering home-style country cooking, to anyone that came by, on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
She was also… a two-time survivor of breast cancer… and yet continued on, to live her life, with the spirit of a thoroughbred.
