Billy Conn McCorkle

May 10, 1949 — February 28, 2026

Billy Conn McCorkle, born on May 10, 1949, in Buena Vista, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home in Plano, Texas, on February 28, 2026, after a brief stay in hospice (home) care. His transition was peaceful and swift with his wife and loyal dog.

Billy is survived by his wife - Susan Spaethe, son - Mackenzie Spaethe McCorkle (daughter-in-law Allison, granddaughter Maddy and grandson Gavin) and daughter - Yael Spaethe McCorkle and numerous cousins - Gayle McCorkle Miller, Betty Jo McCorkle Faulkner, & Jennifer Dial Hardage to name a few . He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. (James Cleveland) McCorkle and Jonnie Pearl McCorkle, as well as many of his loyal canine companions, Pijak the Malamute and Walter the Great Pyrenees to name just a few.

Billy labored over 30 years of his life with the State of Georgia in Children Protective Services, the Health Department, and Information Technology.

Known for his attentive listening, Billy was often seen as a source of unconventional facts and quirky intellect. He was a first choice for being on a trivia team and considered the 'goto' call if family and friends were ever on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed watching or listening to their games and watching The Princess Bride and Amageddon numerous times. In spite of listening to his wife jabber on about politics Billy was a staunch supporter of his Libertarian and Republican beliefs.

Billy believed his shining accomplishment was raising their two children to be independent and accomplished and joyous adults. He found joy in being surrounded by dogs and creating a warm and loving home environment. Billy was notable for figuring out how to fix cars and perform home repairs (not necessarily properly) but things would usually work.

As we remember Billy Conn McCorkle, we celebrate a life marked by dedication, loyalty, and love. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to be appreciated by those who knew him. A memorial service will be held in Buena Vista Georgia at the Brantley Church at 750 Brantley Road on Saturday April 25th at 2:30pm
