Candido began life with that signature spark—a joy for discovery and a persistent kindness that defined his journey from the very start.

With hearts both heavy and grateful, we celebrate the long and remarkable life of Candido Oreseo Sanchez—fondly known as Candy—who departed this world on July 21, 2026, in Garden Grove. He was eighty-seven years old.

Born on May 5, 1939, Candido began life with that signature spark—a joy for discovery and a persistent kindness that defined his journey from the very start. To know him, his family would say, was to laugh often, to stay curious, and to never leave a plate unfinished, especially if it held a chile relleno, a slice of cherry pie, or one of his beloved orange slice gummies. Candy’s gentle spirit lives vividly in memory: an affectionate laugh, the twinkle in his eye when spotting the stars, or that sweet tooth that always, inevitably, led to ice cream or chocolate chip cookies.

Throughout his life, Candido’s curiosity extended far beyond the kitchen table. He had a fascination with the cosmos—astronomy was not just a hobby but a passion, as he marveled at the mysteries of planets and stars. Perhaps this celestial appreciation inspired the innovative mind that led him to one of his proudest achievements: he was the original inventor of reverse osmosis, a fact feted in the newspapers and honored with a special certificate. This accomplishment brought him great pride, and to his family, it spoke of a man who saw possibilities everywhere and was undaunted by challenge.

He carried this enterprising spirit into his career, owning and operating Sanchez Plumbing for years—a business that bore not just his name, but also his reputation for honest work and trusted relationships. He delighted in tinkering, building, and always being on the move; to Candido, there truly was never a dull moment, and his presence infused every gathering with playful energy and warmth.

The legacy of this remarkable man is felt most deeply in those who survive him. His children, Tony Sanchez and Louise Sanchez, carry forward his independent spirit and sense of humor. His beloved grandchildren—Louisa Dooty, Naomi Sanchez, Dustin Gillum, Aron Gillum, Heather Sanchez, and Holly Sanchez—remember afternoons spent in his company, outings filled with joy, thoughtfulness, and special care. The next generation, including his great-grandchildren Devin Ruiz, Juliana Ruiz, Emilio Sanchez, Robert Dooty, Ryan Dooty, Scarrlette Murad, Allison Vredenburg, Elijah Vredenburg, Ronan Gillum,Everleigh Gillum and Brayden Gillum—have inherited a legacy of love, laughter, and the example of a life well-lived.

Candido’s familial ties extended both to those who remain and to loved ones gone before him: his son David Sanchez; June Sanchez; and his sister, EVA MARY ROMERO, each cherished and remembered.

In his later years, as dementia gently altered his days, Candido’s family encircled him with unwavering devotion. For six years, he was cared for with tenderness and delight. These moments, though sometimes bittersweet, brimmed with deep connection. Outings, shared lunches, and the quirky humor that dementia sometimes brought ("Where are you taking me?"—and then, upon arriving, "Man. This is where I live. This is nice.") became treasures that illuminated his family's devotion, resilience, and fierce love. Through it all, Candido remained happy and comforted, never suffering even as illness encroached—his family ensuring nothing less.

Candido’s time here was an adventure, composed of small pleasures, proud accomplishments, and a lasting affection for those he loved. His existence was a constellation, its light touching every soul that orbited near him.

Candido’s familial ties extended both to those who remain and to loved ones gone before him: each cherished and remembered.

In remembering Candido Oreseo Sanchez, we hold close the sparkle of his laughter, his innovative spirit, and the sweetness he brought to everyday life. As we look up at the night sky—perhaps spotting a particularly bright star—we remember Candy, and know his story continues in the hearts and memories of all blessed to know him.
