> Charles J. Allen, Jr., 81, of Gig Harbor, WA, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2017 in the home he so loved surrounded by family, his favorite dogs, and kitty.

> Charles was born on October 11, 1935 to parents Charles J. Allen, Sr. and Susan Byrnes Allen. He is predeceased by his sister Barbara Hellstein, and has one surviving sister, Betty Corcoran, who resides in Springfield, MA.
>
> He was a graduate of West Springfield High School, and earned his
> Associates Degree at American International College in Springfield, MA. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy reserve for eight years during the Korean war. He was a Springfield, MA police officer, and retired as a forensic detective after 26 years of faithful service. Charles was also a long-standing member of the American legion.

> He was a long time parishioner of St. John's Episcopal church in Gig Harbor WA and a member of the Lakebay Community Center.
>
> He enjoyed working in his yard and watching the surrounding wildlife. During his last years, his special dog Meli comforted and made him smile, and also his dog Zesty, and kitty Elsa. Chuck also enjoyed taking rides in his stepdaughter Jennifer's VW Rabbit along with her two dogs.
>
> Charles leaves his wife of 31 years, Jane Brew Allen, his six children
> Charles, Michael, Theresa, Scott Stacy, and Robert, and two stepchildren Tracy Fleming and Jennifer Craig.
>
> As a family, we have decided to celebrate Charles's life privately at a future date.
>
> We are forever grateful to Franciscan hospice for making Charles' last days a beautiful spiritual journey with and for all of us.
>
