Charles Alfred "Chuck" Glenz

Charles Alfred "Chuck" Glenz, age 92, formerly of Wexford and Valencia, died December 20, 2025, at his home in Edgewater, Fla., after a yearlong struggle with mesothelioma. He beat four other cancers before this one. He was a warrior through every one.

Chuck was born May 10, 1933, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Louise and Alfred Glenz.

Growing up in poverty during the Great Depression and beyond, he began working at age 14 to support his mother in the absence of his father and older brother, who was drafted into the Army. Among his many jobs were raising chickens, collecting and selling golf balls, driving delivery trucks (long before he could legally drive), painting and working in a garage on Pittsburgh's North Side.

He went to work for the former Columbia Gas Company in 1955, where he was employed for 33 years. During that time, he started his own heating, air conditioning and plumbing business, and was known for his hard work and dedication to his many customers in Wexford and the surrounding areas. He continued operating Glenz Heating and Air Conditioning for many years after retiring from Columbia Gas in 1988, finally handing over the reins to his employees in 2025.

Over the years he enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, fishing, pumping the player piano, collecting antique cars, and regaling friends and family with stories about his childhood and his decades of work.

After snowbirding in Edgewater/New Smyrna Beach for a number of years, he made the beach his permanent home in 2015.

He is survived by his daughters, Laura (Dean) Harbeson of Chesapeake, Va., and Valerie (Chris) Rodell of Latrobe, Pa.; four grandchildren, Megan Reilly of Norfolk, Va., Matthew Reilly of Chesapeake, Va., Josie Rodell of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Lucy Rodell of Latrobe, Pa.; three stepgrandchildren, Derek Harbeson of Williamsburg, Va., Tanner Harbeson of Norfolk, Va., and Analise Harbeson of Virginia Beach, Va.; his beloved companion, Lucy Myers of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a brother, John (Sandy) Glenz of Wheeling, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, who died in 1997; his parents; and brothers Edward and Alfred.

Burial will be private, with a memorial service planned at a later date.
