Chuck was born in Seattle to Beth and Wesley McGaffey, where he joined older sisters Barbara and Alysanne.
He attended Laurelhurst Grade school and Roosevelt High school in Seattle Washington. The family spent summers at their home in Spee-Bi-Dah on Puget Sound, near Marysville, Washington.
Chuck attended the University of Washington and was a member of Sigma Chi. After graduating with a degree in business he married Peggy Pearson.
Chuck worked several years at Boeing and Safeco Insurance before returning to the University of Washington and earning a degree in teaching. His second career took him and his family to Portland Oregon where he began teaching at Lake Oswego High School. He would later teach at Tillamook High, and finally in the Clackamas school district.
After retiring he began Dragon Boat Racing, which he pursued for 11 years. He was a member of the PNWC National Railway Historical Society and a volunteer at OMSI.
Chuck was a captain in the Army Reserves and National Guard and retired after 24 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, daughter Lynda Stewart, son Bruce (wife, Lisa), grandchildren Mariah Martin, Emily Mower, Carissa McGaffey, Andrew Stewart, Shanae Stewart , and great grandson Liam Obrey Stewart.
