Charles Ernest Seibert

It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Ernest Seibert of Anderson, CA announces his passing on Monday December 10, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Charlie will be lovingly remembered by Amy, his wife of 33 years, his son Clifford [Bonnie], his daughter Virginia, his step sons Jimmy [Kaye], Jeremy [Heidi] and Jason. Charlie will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Liam [Ashleigh], John Charles, Brittany [Bobby], Heather, Sean, Stacey, Julian, Dexter, Sabrina, Titus, Remy, and great grandchildren Bryce and Bodhi.

Charlie was born in Salinas, California on March 4, 1933. In 1952, he allowed himself to be drafted into the army. He did his basic training at Fort Ord, and was in the Veterinary Corps assigned to food inspections. He met his first wife Barbara at school and they had three children, Suzi, Clifford and Virginia.

Charlie spent 33 years of his work life at Granite Construction Company where he worked in payroll and accounting and finished up his career in the Branch division overseeing all accounting operations of the satellite branches of Granite. During this time, he met Amy, who was assistant to one of Charlie's friends. On his way into the building, he would steal Amy's coke off of her desk or pull other small pranks until one day she invited him to have lunch with her in the conference room. One thing lead to another and Charlie asked Amy on a date. He proposed a date at Marriott's Great America with her three boys. They had a wonderful time and a year later Charlie and Amy were married! He helped Amy finish raising her boys who were 12, 9, and 5 years of age at the time of their marriage. This was a grand undertaking but he took it on with great energy and good humor. The boys are all so grateful for all the things Charlie taught them both by words and actions.

Charlie was very active in the Methodist church, working in the gardens and grounds outside the church, serving as Treasurer and establishing a Men's group in the Watsonville church.

Charlie was always very interested in sports and played and coached basketball and softball. He was active in City league and co-ed teams as well as coaching Women's softball and volleyball teams. He enjoyed coaching very much and loved to tell stories from his coaching days.

At home Charlie loved his dogs and working in his garden. He also had a fondness for Koi fish and had Koi ponds at his homes for the last 30+ years.

Charlie also loved playing games with his family. He enjoyed Uno and Skip Bo as well as Scrabble and other board games. He nearly always won and really loved it when he did.
Later he discovered Sudoku games and liked to challenge himself with them. This passion for games helped him regain most of his brain function after a surgical complication caused serious brain injury.

Both Ginny and her son Liam related that Charlie was the best Dad and Grandpa you could ever want. Charlie was a surrogate Dad to Liam and always had a story or some good insight to give.

Charlie believed in the importance of relationships and as a result he had no enemies and never met a stranger he wasn't kind to. He was the kind of person who would strike up a conversation in the grocery store or while standing in line at the mall or restaurant. He loved going out to lunch and had a standing Saturday lunch group of friends. He was known to drive long distances just to have lunch with his daughters. He had favorite places to go and became friends with the staff or owners at each of them. Once, Amy stopped to get pizza from their favorite Round Table Pizza on their anniversary. When they opened the box, there was a Happy Anniversary message written on the inside!

Charlie made a positive and lasting impression on the lives of more people than one could imagine and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
