On Thursday, February 2nd, 2023, Christopher D. Hansen, a beloved son and brother, passed away after a battle with cancer. He lived in Pasco Washington and was fifty years old. Born to Jim and Jane Hansen, Chris went through school and worked in the field of accounting. He realized quickly that he preferred work that was more intimately involved with people. Chris switched to doing odd jobs for friends and maintenance work on the family’s rental properties, which also left him time to do extensive hiking. When his father was diagnosed with a long-term illness, Chris moved home to care for his aging parents.
Chris had strong faith throughout his life, enjoying God’s creation firsthand. He was a gentle soul who was loved by everyone who met him. Spending time with his nieces and nephews was one of his favorite pastimes, and there were lots of parties, activities, gifts, and inside jokes. He enjoyed trading stories with neighbors, friends, and acquaintances over a campfire, along a trail, in a boat, or wherever he met them. His happy place was the great outdoors, and he’d been tent camping ever since he was six weeks old. Chris spent countless hours gardening, fishing, hiking, camping, kayaking, and mushroom hunting.
He is survived by his mother, Jane Hansen, siblings Jim Hansen, Mike Hansen, Melissa Carpenter, Matt Hansen, Miranda Thrasher, Rebecca Gnezdova, Joshua Hansen, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service Saturday, March 25, at 1:00 pm, at Bethel Church, 5202 Outlet Drive, West Pasco. Donations can be made to the Pacific Crest Trail Association (give.pcta.org).
