Dale Arthur Bates

Dale Bates age 99 passed away peacefully in Bertram Texas January 1st. He was born in Salem Oregon January 18 1924 to Arthur B Bates and Ruth Newton Bates. Dale was a waist gunner in a B 24 Liberator in WWII and then joined the Airforce Reserve as an officer after graduating from Willamette University. Dale retired as a major from the Airforce reserve. Dale had a long successful career in the Savings & Loan Business.

 

Dale married Louise Roberta Campbell and eventually settled in Walla Walla WA with four children: Sue, Mike, Sally and Bill. Dale and Louise retired in Surprise AZ where Louise died in 1996. Dale later married Mary Ann Villa. They moved to the Austin Texas area to be closer to Mary Ann’s daughter Chris(Dirk) and her only grand child(Averie).

 

In addition to Dale’s wife Mary Ann, Dale is survived by his four children Sue, Sally(John), Mike and Bill(Marilyn), 8 grand children, Michael Ray, Connor, Katie, Brian, Aaron(Natalie), Nick(Becky), Alex(Jill) and Andrew(Emma) and 11 great grand children.

 

Dale was fiercely loyal to his family and very proud of his military service. Dale will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

 

Friends and family are invited to attend his celebration of life at the Fellowship Church, 3600 RM -1869 Liberty Hill Saturday January 13th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leander VFW.
