Darryl (Chip) L. McGee Jr., 55 years old living in Rockwall, Texas passed away at home on May 18, 2024, after a short illness. He was born in Dallas Texas to Sandra N. McGee and Darryl L. McGee Sr. He married his wife Kristine Anderson McGee in 1996 and has a daughter, Haley McGee.
Chip graduated from Notre Dame High School in Riverside, Ca and earned a Political Science Degree from University of Texas Dallas.
Chip began his law enforcement career on June 17, 1994, as a deputy for the Dallas County Sheriff Office where he served in that capacity for two years. On April 8, 1996, Chip joined the Grand Prairie Police Department earning many commendations over his 28 years. At the time of his passing, Chip was a Detective assigned to the Child Crimes Unit. During his time with Grand Prairie, he earned Rookie of the Year in 1997 and Crime Commission Officer of the Month four times in January 1997, July 1998, April 1999, and November 2022. Chip also earned the Pride Baton in February 2022 and Certificates of Merit in September 2004 and September 2017. Chip was named the City of Grand Prairie Employee of the Month in August 2013.
He enjoyed researching and wearing his cologne, playing poker, vacations at the beach, time out in the sun, and spending time with his friends. His passion was helping children in the community and keeping “his kids” safe. His daughter Haley was his shining star.
He is survived by his wife Kristine Anderson McGee, daughter Haley McGee, mother Sandra McGee, stepmother Marion McGee, uncle Terry Bender, Uncle Kelly French (Alison), and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was proceeded in death by his father Darryl McGee Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Friday May 31, 2024, at the Ruthe Jackson Center located at 3113 S. Carrier Parkway, Grand Prairie, Tx. 75052. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Pratt, Martin Valdez, Heath Wester, Ray Anguiano, Gerald Moore, and Jeff Askin.
