On Friday December 21st, 2018. Dean Worth Ashbrook passed away in Cathedral City at the home of his caregiver April Ancheta. He was 86 years of age.
Dean was born in Fontana California, August 26th, 1932. He grew up in Belmont Shore in Long Beach. In his youth Dean was an amazing athlete.
In 1950 at the age of 18 he entered the Olympic trials for track and field.
He won 4th place in the shot put event. His favorite sport was Surfing. In 1971, He won 2nd place in the men's senior division for surfing in Santa Cruz, Calif.
He has many accomplishments throughout his life, which included serving in the, US Navy 1952-1954, US Coast Guard as a merchant marine 1955-1963, Retired Long Beach Life Guard 1951-1970, Life Long member of the Long Beach Life Guard Association, Longtime Member of the American Legion and an Honorary Retired Member of the Teamsters Local 952
Dean is proceeded in death by both his parents Samuel F. Ashbrook and Edith E. Ashbrook and his sons Patrick Dean Ashbrook, Darren Clark Ashbrook and son in law Gene Moana. He survived by his sister Sarabeth Ashbrook Weeks, his 4 daughters Sheldean Ashbrook Love (Patrick Love), Lisa Ashbrook Moana, Michelle Ashbrook Micucci (Joe Micucci), Denise Ashbrook Steller (John Steller) and his 13 grandchildren, Sarah, Kandace, Brianne, Moana, Kristopher, Monica, Eric, Collette, Loren, Zachary, Kaden, Alexa, Cameron and 9 great grandchildren.
The family will be having a memorial ceremony in Dean's name later in 2019 in Long Beach, Ca
