Diane
Carleton
January 22, 1956 – April 27, 2026
Diane Marie Carleton, lovingly known as Di, Grammi Di and “Ma” passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, in California after a brief battle with cancer. Born on January 22, 1956, Diane spent her life sharing her generous spirit, and finding joy in both her Boston roots and her life in sunny California.
Diane was a supportive mother, a proud grandmother, and someone who made friends wherever she went. She is survived by her children, Robert Carleton Jr. and his wife Nicole Chalfant, Kevin Carleton and his wife Jessica Carleton, and Kimberly Dinsmore and her husband TJ Dinsmore. She loved her grandchildren Alanna, Cameron, Dylan, Marlowe, Bennett, and Leona. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Covino, and shared a lasting friendship with her former husband, Robert Carleton Sr.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph A. Covino and Diana M. Covino (Bucaria).
Diane had a special way of making people feel welcome and seen. She loved good coffee, good music, and the simple joy of being with others—whether that meant driving with the windows down, sitting at a bar with a glass of wine and pizza, or striking up a conversation with someone new. Those small, everyday moments were where she truly shined.
She worked at Koffi, where her love for coffee was right at home, and she took pride in the connections she made there. Diane also loved to travel and explore, often on bicycle, always curious and open to wherever the day might take her.
She was especially proud of the life she built between Boston and California, the two places she loved deeply and that reflected her spirit in different ways.
Diane will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, and her ability to bring people together. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in Diane's name.
