Donald Ray Green

March 2, 1926 — May 24, 2024

Yakima

Donald Ray Green left us with heavy hearts when he passed on May 24, 2024. Don was born to on March 2,1926 in Washougal, Washington.

His family with brother Bill, and sister Florence moved to Sunnyside, Washington. In 1936 Dad's family became larger with the addition of step mother Mary, and five sisters. (Kate, Midge,Hazel, Barbara and Mary Lou.)  In 1947 at age 17, Don volunteered for the Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific. Don graduated from Washington State College (WSU) with a business degree and  in 1953 on August 1 married Barbara Ellen George.


Don and Barbara lived in Olympia where Don worked for the Washington State Dept of Transportation. In 1956 Don transferred to Yakima where he and Barbara raised their 3 children, Dave, Nancy and Carla. In 1984 Don designed and supervised the building of  a new house for them on 44th Avenue adjacent to their current home.


Don retired from the DOT in 1986 and immediately he and Barbara left on a an extended 6 month vacation to New Zealand. There they bought a motor home and toured both islands for 6 months. They made many New Zealand friends and enjoyed several subsequent Kiwi friends and family holiday visit to Yakima and the US. Don and Barbara were married for 69 years. Barbara passed away in May of 2022. Don then moved to Peachtree Retirement Apartments where he began a happy new chapter and made many new friends and great neighbors. Don's friends and care team are sent a million thanks for their unending friendship and love. Thanks to the following and please forgive all those I have not mentioned. So much joy and memories!
