Donald Wayne Helms
Don 94 of Green Valley, AZ passed away peacefully at home Friday August 4, 2017. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Don was born July 22, 1923 in Stewartsville Ohio, graduated from high school in 1941. Given the onset of the war, it was not very long before he was called to serve his country. Don served his country, both honorably and heroically for the U.S. Army during WWII.
After the war ended he attended Pittsburgh College achieving his master's degree, married and started his family. Don worked as a buyer for several department stores; in September of 1961 he relocated his family from Ohio to Scottsdale, Arizona where he continued his profession as a buyer in merchandizing and store manager at Goldwaters. In 1986 Don retired where he and his wife Marjorie relocated to Green Valley Arizona. While residing in Green Valley Don accepted a part time position driving for Jim Click Ford and continued to working an additional 16 years.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, his son Mark, his daughter Kristina and his reunited great friend and love Jean McClellan. Don is survived in life by his grandson Brent Gillson and his wife Melissa, grandson Corey Gillson, five great grand children, several nieces and nephews, and his former daughter in-law Maryjo Helms/Hollabaugh.
Don has touched so many lives and will be missed dearly from all who have had the great fortune of him being a part of their lives, even if it was just for a brief moment. Don had a way to bring joy, love, and laughter to everyone he encountered.
Don's internment with honor's will be held Friday August 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Marana Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 15950 N. Luckett Rd. Marana, AZ 85653.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 26, 2017 at 2:30 pm at Pima Friends Meeting 931 N. 5th Avenue Tucson, AZ 85705. Please join us after at 5:00 pm for a reception at the American Legion Madera Post 131. 249 W. Esperanza Blvd. Green Valley AZ 85614.
