Donald Albin Reader was born on October 29, 1943 and passed away on June 26, 2017 following a long illness. Don was born in Long Beach, CA to parents Donald A. Reader, Sr. and Kaye (Mildred Kathleen) Reader. His father was a career Naval Officer, in positions that moved the family many places during Don's early years, including the Philippines and Japan. He remained close throughout his life with many of the friends he made during that childhood of traveling with Navy families.
A long time resident of Prunedale, CA Don was a member of the Lions, Kiwanis and most recently The Native Sons of the Golden West. As a devoted father he enjoyed coaching baseball from T-Ball through the high school level, and was a dedicated supporter of Palma High School baseball and football. He also loved working on cars, ranging from his VW "Baja" Bug, to his Pikes Peak Hill Climb race car (won it once!) as well muscle cars with his sons. In his later years Don's favorite place was Lake Nacimiento where he enjoyed fishing and spending time on the lake with his family and friends.
Don spent over 30 years in the auto parts business. Most recently he was self-employed at Old Town Health (in Old Town Salinas) as a Youngevity Nutritional Supplements Distributor.
Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie; his son Danny of Salinas, wife Carrie and two grand-daughters Ava (3) and Maggie (newborn); son Tim of Salinas, and wife Marissa; son Brian of Moscow, Idaho and wife Jill.
A gathering to celebrate his life was held on July 6th and was attended by family and close friends.
