Donald R. Redetzke, 79, passed away on September 4, 2021, at his home in Houston, Texas after a three-month battle with cancer. Don was born in Echo, Minnesota on May 1, 1942. He attended Echo Public Schools and was an exceptional athlete. After an undefeated football season, he was named to the Minnesota All-State Football Defensive Team in 1960. He also excelled in basketball, baseball and track. After attending Mankato State College for two years, Don joined the Minnesota National Guard. He later transferred to the Louisiana National Guard where he participated in recovery efforts in New Orleans after hurricane Betsy in 1965. After completing his military service, he settled in Houston, Texas and started his own air conditioning/appliance repair business. In his later years, he enjoyed ice skating and performed at several venues in the Houston area. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Irene Redetzke, and a brother, Loren. He will be dearly missed by his brothers Dale (Nancy) of Hutchinson, Minnesota; Clyde Jr. (Pat) of Sealy, Texas; Russell (Karen) of Esko, Minnesota; and a sister Lois (Cliff) of Wimberley, Texas and his nieces, nephews and friends. Interment will be at the Echo Cemetery at a later date.
