Donald Eugene Stevens

On Monday June 4, 2018 Donald E. Stevens passed away at age 79 in Santa Clara, California. He will be forever remembered by his daughter Erin, his fiancé Nancy, his siblings Rich, Virginia, Becky, and Mark, his step family Amity, Stephan, Genevieve, and Xavier. Donald will also be forever remembered by his numerous aunts nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

My eulogy to Dad:

Dad was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Donald and Marie Stevens. However, he spent most of his childhood in the Pittsburgh area and often spoke of his adventures there. I remember one of his most proud tales was of skipping class for three months as a kid and not getting caught until a parent teacher day. He always loved and was proud of the history of his family in that area.

He joined the Navy in July 1956 and was honorably discharged in July 1962. He then attended Duquesne University where he graduated with a BSc in Business Administration in 1963. He was a stalwart Duquesne Basketball fan and watched their games religiously.

After university he went on to use his skills for Nabisco. Nabisco allowed him to travel and he loved those experiences, except of course when he spent months in a Spanish speaking country and only knew how to say dos huevos y pan tostado por favor (two eggs and toast please). Needless to say he was sick of eggs and toast after that bit. Nabisco Brands purchased Hygiene Industries and when that was sold in 1983 he stayed with Hygiene/Dawson Home Fashions as CFO until the late 1990's.

He moved to California in 1996 to be closer to family and has lived in Campbell, CA ever since. He met Nancy Riddle and they were in separable. He loved her dearly and it was wonderful that he gained a second family in Amity and Stephane DeFontaine and their two children Genevieve and Xavier.
He was an amazing father and proud dad who supported me in everything I did, even if it took me continents away from him. I remember playing king of the hill, eye spy, and doing gilli-flippers for hours and hours.

Dad was always kind even at the end, saying thank you to the nurses and doctors that assisted him. As the oldest of the siblings he was the kind big brother and a leader of the family when they needed him the most.

Please use this forum for sharing memories of my Dad.

Love,
Erin
