Doris Eileen (McEachran) Betts

Doris Eileen (McEachran) Betts passed away Dec 17, 2016 at her residence in Happy Valley. Her son, Randy, was with her. Doris was born in Broadus, Montana, and spent her formative years in Oak Grove and Jennings Lodge. She graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1949 and Cascade College in 1953 and started her teaching career at Sellwood Elementary. In 1956 she married Henry Otis Betts from Salmon Creek, WA, and together they raised three boys. She loved teaching first grade students to read and write and spent most of her career at Sunnyside Elementary, where she retired in 1994. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends, books, camping, travel, holidays (and holiday decorations!), and gardening, for her Christian faith, sense of humor and zest for life, and for her trademark pet expressions, like "Heavens to Betsy!", "What a riot!", and "Oh, he was a wheel!". We miss her already. She leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Otis; her sons, Randall (Casandra), Jeffrey (Debbie), and Scott (Sharon); nine grandchildren whom she treasured; numerous dear nieces and nephews and their families; and sister-in-law Irma Jean. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, George Wilber, Sr, and Ruth Elizabeth (McConnehey) McEachran, her sister Laone Bakken and brothers George, Jr. ("Will"), Don, and Clyde.
