Doris Jane Sanchez unexpectedly passed away on January 18, 2026, at the age of 78.
She was born in Artesia, CA on June 10, 1947 to George and Johanna Dirken. Doris graduated from Artesia High School in 1965 and was later employed at Safeway, retiring after 29 years. Doris was given the nickname "Olive Oil' at Safeway by her co-workers as she was 6" tall. The profile picture above is with Millie on her 78th birthday!
She was known for her boundless generosity and radiant smile. Doris was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who enjoyed gardening, shopping and spending time with her family. Her favorite role was that of a Grandmother. She treasured her time with the grandkids and just loved being a Grandmother, never failing to watch over them when needed. Doris also had a soft spot for her furry friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family members they were.
Doris also enjoyed spending precious time with her closest best friend Millie, a wonderful blessed friendship of 35 years. Doris was known not just for enjoying her friendships, but for being a good friend as well.
In the last couple of years, Doris relocated from Menifee, CA to Clovis, CA to be near her oldest son Robert. She moved into a Senior Living Community after living with Robert & Sylvia for a couple months, where she quickly adapted and created many new friendships. She participated in many activities and new family outings. She particularly enjoyed being around people and all family events, and if babies were present, it made her day. Doris was also called "Gramma Doris" which she loved her title and brought a huge smile to her face. She enjoyed little getaways like camping day trips and simply being around people as she did not like being alone. She loved attending family gatherings, LA Dodger games, listening to a variety of music and always looked forward to those events where she was able to socialize and enjoy everyone's company with an occasional Margarita with extra lime! Doris was known for having a sweet tooth. She loved her ice cream and various desserts. Whether it was cakes, pies, cookies, or homemade goodies from dinner parties or holiday feasts, she always had her sweets packed and ready to go! Often these goodies were found wrapped up in her purse!
Doris was loved by all and her joyful spirit was evident to all who knew her. Doris is forever in our hearts. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure. Doris's laughter and the occasional sticking the tongue out will be missed by all who knew her.
Doris is survived by her sister Sandra Opsitnik of Youngstown, Ohio, and children Robert Sanchez, Ryan Sanchez, Lori Sanchez and many cherished grandchildren.
The family invites you to share memories or condolences. In loving memory of our beloved Doris Jane Sanchez. We love you Mom and miss you dearly.
