Douglas Weaver

Douglas Laverne Weaver of Oxnard, CA, previously of Foster City, CA passed into the next life quietly in bed the morning of February 13th, 2021 in St. John's Dignity Hospital .

He was born and raised in Orange County, CA by the late Georgia and Harry Weaver. He graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1958. After graduation he attended Orange Coast Community College in Costa Mesa, CA. He met and married the love of his life, the late Diane M. Weaver to whom he enjoyed a 59 year marriage. He is survived by his sons, Doug Weaver of Chester, MD and Rick Weaver of Ventura, CA; and grandchildren Collin Weaver and Macy Weaver of Ventura, CA.

Doug had a long career in the waterworks industry where he was respected and loved by peers and customers alike, many who became friends. His sons, when interviewing for a job with one of Doug's friends, would inevitably hear a version of 'if you are half the man of your Dad, we will have no problems...'; he did set the bar high.

Doug was a man with a large laugh, exceptional humility, a huge presence all of which were exceeded by his enormous heart. He relished bringing smiles to the faces of friends, old and newly met. Doug lived his life in service of others; whether it was coaching one of his two sons' sports teams, chaperoning church outings (he especially enjoyed the ski trips to Lake Tahoe), volunteering and serving as president of his church's congregation, volunteering for the CHP; or his last duty of service, the most heart wrenching and important effort: becoming caregiver of his beloved wife of 59 years, Diane. He proved, time, and again to be exemplary proof of his oft repeated mantra "There are two types of people in this world, givers and takers. Most are takers, your Mom and I are givers. It is your choice who you will become...".

Golf was one of Doug's great joys, especially with his sons and grandson. He felt blessed to spend the last years of his life living on a golf course he played 2-3 times per week that allowed him to stop by the house mid-round for Diane to provide cool drinks to his group. His playing partners learned quickly that Mothers are not the only ones with eyes in the back of their heads', Doug did as well, along with a stroke counter that was uncannily accurate...a "forgotten" swing was never forgotten.

Doug will be remembered as a man who had robust love for family, life, and friends. He lived a vital life his whole life, on his terms. In his final days, as he lay in his hospital bed, he asked his son "How is your Mom doing" to which the son replied 'she is waiting for you to come home'. Little did anyone know that home was not Oxnard, home was Heaven.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Sunday 3/14/21. Please contact Doug Weaver at drdtweaver@gmail.com or Rick Weaver at weaverrc@gmail.com for details. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that charitable donations be made to Casa Pacifica, your local Food Share or similar food relief effort in your area.
