Douglas Westwood passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 25, 2018, after a brief illness. Born in Independence, MO on November 27, 1948 to Donald and Lillian (McCarty) Westwood. Doug served from 1968-1971 in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division with the dubious distinction of having survived five helicopter crashes. While he was able to leave Vietnam, sadly, his wartime experiences never left him. After earning a degree in Financial Management from DePaul University, Doug reenlisted in the Army and had the great honor of serving a tour of duty in the Old Guard, performing many ceremonies at Arlington Cemetery and other Washington landmarks. While serving a tour of duty in Heidelberg, Germany, he met his wife of 30 years, Lisa. Survived by his loving wife Lisa, daughter Lara (Cody) Cheesman and granddaughter Elaina. Also survived by his sister Connie Arbaugh, brother Don Westwood, many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Doug's gentle nature, intellect, quick wit and dry sense of humor will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
