Edward Austin Jackson

Born on July 20, 1941, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Edward (Ed) passed away on October 24, 2025 following complications from surgery. Ed was 84.

He was a loving husband, father to son Franklin Scot Jackson (Victoria, BC) and daughter Kimberley Dawn Jackson (Calgary, AB), brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

Ed lived a full and active life filled with a variety of careers that contributed to what an amazing man he was.

  • Paper Distribution (Crown Zellerbach), Calgary.
  • Oil Business (Banff Oil), Calgary and Rainbow Lake in Northern Alberta
  • Bass player in a band “Sound Situation” - helped pay his way through university in Calgary
  • Prison system - assistant warden in Calgary, warden in BC
  • Employee Counselor at Canadian Pacific Airlines (CP Air), Vancouver
  • International Consultant, Petrochemical, San Antonio, TX

  • While at CP Air in Vancouver, Ed met the love of his life, Sharon (Pruitt) in 1982. During the 80s, they spent the majority of their summers sailing around the Gulf Islands in BC. Their small 24 ft sailboat gave them some of the best memories they would treasure throughout their lives. In keeping with their love of boating, they married on some friends’ boat in 1986.

In 1990, Ed accepted a contract through Canadian Pacific Ltd., and the World Bank Organization, and he and Sharon moved to Atbara, Sudan, Africa for almost three years. During that time, they were able to take two “dream come true” vacations: Bare boat sailing in the Greek Islands, and a safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya.

Shortly after their return from Sudan, in between the search for the “next career,” Ed and Sharon were approached about going to the Dominican Republic to help some friends run their bar/restaurant for a couple of months. So off they went. While there, Ed ran the bar and he said, “Sharon did the shopping and worked on her tan.”

A few years following their return to Vancouver, in 1995, they moved to San Antonio, TX, where they lived, worked, and played until 2015. After Sharon retired, the love of the Pacific Northwest drew them to Washington State, where they fell in love with Anacortes, bought a home, and settled into their “forever spot.” They had an incredible life together for more than 43 years.

In keeping with Ed’s wishes, “no service is necessary, but a small gathering might be nice.” Come share stories about Ed.
