Memorial Service at Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave. on February 25, 2012.Elfriede Marie was born on April 8, 1925 in Pommerswitz, Upper Silesia, Germany, to Marie Pescke and Paul Nandzik. She came to the United States on December 18, 1927, and lived in South Bend, Ind. with her parents. Graduated in 1943 with honors from Washington High School, where she played trombone in the band. Active in the alumni association. Martriculated at IUSBN in the fall of 1943; first member of the family to attend college. Married Carl Solmer Jr. in 1944. 3 children; Henry, Richard, and Frederick. Formed a family band in the mid-1950's, and continued playing trombone in various bands into retirement. Worked as a secretary at a series of companies which are no longer operating in South Bend. Active in the DFV (Deutsche Fortbildungs Verein) for many years. Active in the local Democratic Party. Widowed in 1965, remarried, to Ron Klockow, in 1968. Widowed again in 2008; moved to a nursing home in California. Died in Newport Beach February 1, 2012.
