Ellen was born in Hillsboro, Oregon to Kenneth and Mildred Travis. She married Dean Klingner September 13, 1968. She graduated from Gresham High School, attended classes at Mt. Hood Community College, and attended Portland sports classes for youth and a multitude of baseball and softball umpire clinics.
She worked for: Dea’s restaurant, Arcoa Inc., U-Haul, Dartell, Neptune Electronics, owned D & E Mobile Services and Buttons-Now.com. Ellen enjoyed belonging to St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Hobbies included tennis, boating, motorcycles and ATVs, baseball and softball coaching and umpiring, animals, camping and car shows. Ellen was an excellent cook, a Trail Blazer fan and a rabid NASCAR fan!
Ellen is survived by her husband Dean Klingner, daughter Lisa Helzer and family, Charlie Klingner and family, 11 brothers and sisters, 7 grandchildren, 21 nieces and nephews and by Henry, her faithful service dog. Ellen was loved by all and will be missed by all. There was a celebration of life picnic before her death and a family celebration of life after her cremation.
Ellen’s goal was to live and die at home. There is no way to express enough gratitude to all of her Doctors, Nurses, Aids, Case Workers and Volunteers of: Kaiser Permanente, Kaiser Permanente Home Health Hospice, and Oregon Department of Human Services.
There will be a memorial mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Church 9AM, Saturday, October 26th 2013( 1015 SE 182nd Ave, Portland, Or 97233).
Ellen died at home from a 40-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. In order to help conquer this horribly catastrophic disease, her husband Dean will be riding in Bike MS 2014 in memory of her and to support research efforts funded by the National MS Society.
