Gary Lee Ulseth

Gary Lee Ulseth was born on April 9, 1941 and entered the presence of his Heavenly Father on February 11, 2026, just shy of his 85th birthday. Gary was born in Crookston, Minnesota to his parents, Melvin and Jeanette Ulseth. When Gary was only 8-months old, his family moved to Tacoma, Washington. Gary lived the rest of his life in the Tacoma area.

Gary was a loving son, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother. He was also an incredible friend to many and was adored by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, with his quick smile and witty sense of humor. Gary loved Jesus and he loved his family. He served as a church usher for many years at Life Center Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1999 and he lived a life full of faith and service to others. In his younger years, he volunteered at the local food bank and soup kitchen, serving those in need.

Gary grew up as the middle of 3 children in his family, with an older brother and a younger sister. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959. Gary worked at Nalley Fine Foods from 1960 to 2002 and quickly worked his way up to the position of “Chief Formulator” at the Nalley pickle plant in Tacoma. Gary had a strong work ethic and he never took a sick day or was late for work during his time at Nalley’s, even while enduring physically demanding 75+ hour work weeks during “Fresh Pack” season every Summer at the pickle plant. He loved plaid shirts, Hawaiian shirts, and clean white sneakers. He loved The Gaither Vocal Band, Bingo, and ice cream. Dinner was not complete without a bowl of ice cream for dessert. Gary was a big sports fan and he especially loved baseball.

Gary was married to Jo Ann Kvamme (Glass) from 1963 until 1983, and they had two children, Richard “Rick” Ulseth and Lisa Ulseth (Dickson). In 1984, Gary found love again when he married Deleva “Dee” Tice (Ulseth) and he became a devoted stepfather to her two children, Robert “Bob” Tice and April Tice (Doidge).

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Jeanette Ulseth, his brother, Rev. David Ulseth, and his beloved wife, Dee Ulseth. He is survived by his sister, Marlene D’Angelo, and his children, Rick Ulseth (Ana Fe), Lisa Dickson (Malcolm), Bob Tice (Elaine), and April Doidge (York). Gary had grandchildren who he absolutely adored: Ryan Dickson (Natasha), Robbi Johnston (Roger), Asher Mineo (Jayden), Noah Dickson (Charlie), Michelle Shannon, Madison Tice, Andrew Tice, Ethan Tice, Perry Doidge, and Autumn Doidge, as well 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was a true blessing to his family and friends and he will be missed each day.
