Gloria was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Clarence and Kathryne Busenlehner, the oldest of their six children. She graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham. She then journeyed west with a friend, ending up in Southern California. She later met and married Clarence (Bud) M. Smith in San Diego, California. They raised three children; Linda (Elbert), Michael, and Daniel.
Gloria was predeceased into God's hands by her loving husband, Bud Smith. His job as a technical writer and job-shopper took them to many different cities all over California. in 1964 they purchased a permanent home in Topanga, CA, where they lived until his death in 1975. She continued to live in Topanga for a few more years until moving out to Camarillo to be near her daughter.
Gloria was a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and worked at the Motion Picture Country Home and Hospital in Woodland Hills, as well as several other Convalescent Hospitals throughout the San Fernando Valley. In later years she provided Private Duty Care to many patients until her retirement.
Gloria liked to sew, knit, and crochet; she made many quilts, afghans, and blankets to donate to organizations for babies in need. Additionally, she loved the outdoors; camping, fishing. Her favorite thing was gardening. She knew the names of many kinds of flowers and plant, as well as how to take care of them. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her: daughter and son- Linda, Daniel; son-in-law- Mike Elbert; grandchildren- Regina Vinukonda (and Vinod), Chris Elbert (and Callan), and Bryan Elbert; great-grandchildren- Asha and Neha Vinukonda; brothers- Buddy, Walter, and Johnny Busenlehner; sisters- Joyce (Bolden), and Carolyn (Morris); brother-in-law- Raymond Bolden; sisters-in-law- Faye Busenlehner, Margaret (Cottie), and Susan Busenlehner; and many nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
A private service will be held with immediate family in California.
