It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Gordon Allen Sando, who left this world on July 26, 2026. Born on January 11, 1940, in North Dakota to Rudy and Ruth Sando, Gordon's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to family, education, and community.
Gordon's academic path began at Luther College in Iowa, where he met the love of his life, Joan Peterson. They wed on August 3, 1963, embarking on a shared adventure that lasted over six decades. Gordon earned his BA from Luther College in 1963, followed by an MA from Cal State Northridge in 1967. His pursuit of knowledge continued as he completed the requirements for his School Administrator’s Credential at USC in 1979.
Gordon and Joan spent a significant part of their lives in California, where they both worked as educators. They raised their two beloved sons, Dale and Jason, in the welcoming community of Atascadero. Gordon's entrepreneurial spirit shone through his ownership of a full-service car wash in the area, where everyone was a special customer.
Upon retirement, Gordon and Joan settled in Sun City McDonald Ranch in Henderson, NV, where they found a warm and vibrant community. Gordon's zest for life was evident in his many passions. He enjoyed golf, tennis, waterskiing, snow skiing, camping and RVing. His love for the great outdoors was matched only by his love for travel. Gordon's journeys took him across South America, Europe, Canada, China, and throughout the United States, where he never met a stranger. He was a natural storyteller and found joy in sharing meals, hikes, or a friendly game of tennis with new friends from around the world.
Gordon is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, his sons Dale (Karina Hondoko) and Jason (Marlo Tsuchiyama), and his cherished grandchildren, Jared, Jalen, and Maile Tsuchiyama Sando. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Carol). He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Jerry.
A celebration of Gordon's life will be held on November 29, 2026, at 2:00 -4:00 at The Willow’s at SCMR, located at 2020 Horizon Ridge Parkway. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Gordon's memory to the Community Lutheran Church Music programs, reflecting his love for music and community.
Gordon will be remembered for his kindness, his ability to make everyone feel like family, and his unwavering enthusiasm for life. His legacy of love, laughter, and learning will continue to inspire all who knew him.
