Grover Henry Nix III, age 83, of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 31, 1943, Grover was the son of Grover Henry Nix, Jr., a career U.S. Marine, and Mildred Meyocks of Iowa. A lifelong learner, he was a proud graduate of Fairfax High School in Virginia, the University of Notre Dame, Harvard Law School, and King’s College London.
While he dedicated his professional life to the practice of law, Grover’s diverse passions and endless curiosity extended far beyond the courtroom. He was an avid history, movie, and music buff with a particular love for rock ’n’ roll, classic black-and-white films, and all things British. A gifted and clever storyteller, Grover also spent countless hours tracing his family’s ancestry in order to preserve their history for future generations. On weekends, he could often be found riding his bike—especially while watching the Tour de France—and enthusiastically cheering on his favorite sports teams: Notre Dame football, the Boston Red Sox, and Arsenal F.C.
Above all else, Grover was a steadfast and deeply devoted family man who always had a smile on his face. Known for his infectious happiness, he would easily strike up a friendly conversation with anyone, always striving to make others feel good. His immense generosity was matched only by his affection; he would never let his family leave the house without a hug.
Grover is survived by his adored wife of 58 years, Marcia Nix, and their three children, Meaghan, Grover IV, and Taylor, who will forever cherish his loyalty, humor, and boundless love. His signature sign-off will carry on in the hearts of those he loved, serving as a constant reminder of his joyful spirit and unwavering devotion:
“Have fun, you know I love you.”
A funeral mass for Grover will take place on October 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish, 35 S. Main Street, Sherborn, MA 01770. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Fairfax High School, a school that held a special place in his heart.
