He is survived by his wife of nearly 44 years Carolyn Cravey McIlhenny. He also leaves behind his son Brandon McIlhenny and his wife Kelly McIlhenny of Tomball, Texas and his daughter Breann McIlhenny Hart and her husband Branden Hart of Tatum, Texas. Jack was fortunate to have had 4 wonderful grandchildren George McIlhenny, Brody Hart, Brysen Hart and Larkin McIlhenny.  He is also survived by his brother, Michael McIlhenny from the San Antonio area and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Thomas Henry Franklin McIlhenny and Marjorie Sherman McIlhenny of San Antonio, Texas. Also brothers  Durwood Skaggs and Frank McIlhenny passed away before Jack.

Jack was born October 13,1943 in Providence, Rhode Island where his father was stationed in the Navy but his family moved to San Antonio soon after to raise their family.  He was a proud Texas Tech Red Raider and enjoyed serving on the San Antonio Livestock Committee for several years.

Jack worked for  H. B. Zachry Construction Company building power plants so northeast Texas became his home. He was an avid supporter of the Tatum Eagles where his wife was a teacher and his children attended school. Just days before his death, he was at a middle school basketball game cheering on his grandson’s team. Jack liked golfing, playing guitar, and smoking cigars with friends. He also enjoyed coming home to his dogs and cats who eagerly awaited his return.

Jack’s church was an important part of his life and he served actively however he was able. He often worked with others returning the blessings he had received himself. His spirituality showed mostly by his living example. He is missed by many but left a legacy that will not be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held at The Church at Lake Cherokee, 11968 FM 2011, Henderson Tx., Tuesday, Jan 2 at 11:00 am followed by visitation and lunch in Maxwell Hall. Please join us to honor Jack. A private burial of ashes in the family cemetery will follow at a later date.
