Jackie Byron Kinnaman, known to all as "Jack", passed away on April 12, 2018.
Jack was born July 8, 1938 in Pasadena, California, however the family moved to Tillamook , Oregon, Shortly there after. Jack attended grade school and middle school in Tillamook, Oregon, and worked on his parents dairy farm before the family moved to Pendleton ,Oregon, where they owned and operated , The Pendleton Western Club, restaurant/bar and bowling alley.
Jack graduated from Pendleton high school in 1956. He also attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, for 1 year where he studied architecture.
Jack joined the Army National Guard in 1957, where he was combat support company 2nd brigade,186th infantry, where he earned the
" Rifle M1 sharp shooter" badge in June of 57, and the " Auto rifle expert" badge in June of 1958. He served 3 years and was honorably discharged in March of 1960. Jack later joined the Army reserves where he served an additional 2 years.
Jack married Carlene Coughenower , in 1957, and they had 2 children, Brent Kinnaman in 1962 and Bekki Kinnman Hurley in 1967. Jack worked as assistant manager at Payless Drug, in Pendleton, for many years and enjoyed hunting and fishing all over Eastern Oregon.
Later, in 1975 Jack married Paula Crane Hiatt, and brought her son Chanon Hiatt,into thier family. They lived a few years in the Newberg, Oregon area, where they both worked at area school districts , in addition, Jack also worked for Payless drug during this time.
Jack always dreamed of having a fishing boat, and owned a small Dory "The Paula K", that he fished out of Pacific City during the summers when school was out.
Jack studied for and received his Passenger carrier 50 ton charter boat captains license in 1982.
Then in 1984, Jack and Paula moved full time to Depoe bay, Oregon, where Jack operated the" DL Too" , charter fishing boat, later he ran the" Mostly fishing" and eventually owned and operated his own Charter Business " Zodiac Tours", where he did whale watching tours in the Depoe bay area. Jack loved the camaraderie of the fishing community and had many dear friends in the industry.
Jack was a member of the Depoe bay harbor commission, and donated time, money, and effort, to the Salmon Enhancement commission of Depoe Bay. He also worked as a carpenter in the off season for Ron and Dona Narin, building houses in Depoe bay.
Jack was a very talented artist, he did wood work, oil painting, stained glass, water color painting , tole painting, over the years he made quilts, crocheted blankets and in general any type of project he attempted he mastered and was good at... he loved taking art classes.
In 2007, Paula and Jack sold the boat and moved to Arizona where they enjoyed traveling, swimming and the sun, in Green Valley , AZ.
When Jacks health declined, they sold their home in Green Valley, and moved back to Oregon, to be nearer to family in 2017.
Jack Passed away at home which was his wish, on April 12, 2018.
Jack is survived by his wife Paula, Son ,Brent Kinnaman, his wife Cindy, of Dundee Oregon, their children, Ryan, and Mykayla.
Daughter, Bekki Kinnaman Hurley, her husband Rick, and their Children, John and Megan, of Baker City, Oregon.
Son Chanon Hiatt, of Tacoma Wa. ,Sister Kathee Levalley, of Stockton , California , Sister Judee Moncrief, and her husband Doug, from Tillamook, Oregon, and Brother Frank Kinnaman and his wife Donna from Pendleton, Oregon, Sister in law Shelley Crane,from Cannon Beach, Oregon,
and many many other dear friends and family, and his beloved dog Benji.
