Jim was born on October 27, 1942 in Santa Ana, CA to Daniel & Maybelle Pinnix. Jim was the oldest of 3 children. He graduated from CSUF in 1977 with a Bachelors of Arts and major in Geography. After college he worked for various newspapers until he landed at the Orange County Register for 20+ years before retiring. Jim married Marilyn on November 20, 1976. The pair celebrated their 40th anniversary last year in Oceanside, CA. Jim loved going to car shows and showing off his 1956 Torch red Ford Thunderbird, he was a member of North O.C. Classic Cruisers car club. Jim loved collecting coins, knives and skulls.
Jim is survived by his wife Marilyn. Children - Bill, Stacy, Julie, and Laura. Brother - John. Grandchildren - Justin, Saydee, Mark, Jacob, Austin, and Avery. Great Grandchildren - Leonidas, Anastasia, and Odysseus. Along with many other family members, close friends and of course his 2 doggies Buddy & Bailey & cat Joey.
Jim served our nation in the U.S. Navy from November 1964 - November 1970. He was a HM2 Hospital Corpsman who served in Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion 4th Marine Unit. He was awarded 3 purple hearts; March 6, 1967, March 20, 1967 & May 18, 1967. After his 3rd he was sent home from Vietnam.
Medals awarded: 3 Purple Hearts; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Commendation Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Medal; Presidential Unit Citation; and Navy Good Conduct Medal. Jim was an active member of Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), he started an Orange County Chapter - Chapter 752 in 2004. He was also involved in VVA & American Legion.
Jim unfortunately passed away on August 5, 2017. He passed away from long time affects of Agent Orange.
