James A. Stewart, Jr. (Jay), of Thomaston, GA, passed away on September 12, 2020 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, GA after a brief illness. A private Celebration of Life will be held at the Greatest Generation Memorial Park in Thomaston on Saturday, September 26 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hightower Memorial Library or the Upson County Animal Shelter in Thomaston.

Survivors include his brother, Steven Stewart (Carol); sister, Christine Ginex (Charles); nephew David Stewart (Cheryl); niece, Janis Flanagan (John); nephew Joshua Odom (Alyssa); great niece, Emily; and great nephew, Tyler.

Jay moved to Thomaston in 2017 from Seattle, where he had lived since 1980. He worked in the fine jewelry and furniture businesses most of his career. Since moving to Thomaston, he worked at the Upson County Animal Shelter. He loved animals, especially dogs, and rescued two dogs from the shelter. Most people that met Jay would remember him because of his kind and gentle demeanor, as well as his many tattoos, which he acquired later in life. He was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
