Peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Janel, passed away on September 17th, at the youthful age of 70 years.
Born July 4th, 1955, in Burbank, CA, Janel came into this world full of life, full of love, and full of surprises. With her twin sister, Ranel, always by her side, Janel would gracefully dance her way through childhood, and eventually work her way up to being a standout cheerleader at Chatsworth High School (Class of 1973). When it was time to hang up her pom poms, Janel would continue charging forward in life by first attending Valley Junior College. Then, upon completion of her college career, that is when the real fun began. Janel led a very prosperous career in banking for 35+ years, which was a result of her unwavering work ethic, and strong loyalty to her team. Her character in the work place won over the hearts of many amazing individuals, who quickly became dear and longtime friends to her.
The most notable achievement in her life, was the day she became a mom ("Mother Dear") to Lisa ("Kitten"). Janel loved nothing more than being the best mama to Lisa, and that is where her resilient, courageous, and loving spirit grew stronger and stronger. If there was anyone she loved more than herself, it was her beautiful daughter who stood by her side everyday of her life until she took her last breath.
Janel would have to say that her second notable achievement was becoming a grandma ("Nini") to Benny, Vella, and Liberty. She loved spending as much time with them as she possibly could, doing fun things like going to the Ronald Reagan Library, walking to McDonald's, playing at the train park, and making their annual visits to Disneyland at Christmas time.
When she wasn't busy playing with her grandbabies, you can bet she ("Jay-nol") and her other half, Ranel ("Nels"), would be lounging at home watching their favorite western movies, or grabbing their daily cup-of-Joe at Dr. Conkeys. From the time they were in the womb together, they stayed inseparable throughout life, and they were two halves that completed each other. Only they could understand the special and sacred bond they had.
Janel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lisa (Scott); her grandchilden: Benny, Novella, and Liberty; her grandpup: Hanky; her brother, Roger Nickelsen; her twin sister, Ranel (JD Davis) Nickelsen; her nephew, Russ (Jeanni); her nephew, Chris (Jessica and Zaedyn); her niece, Liane (Rameez, Aslıhan, and Nusaybah); her nephew, Sam (Paige and Callahan); as well as numerous precious relatives and friends.
Janel was predeceased by her loving parents, Milton and Bonnie; her precious niece, Claire; her devoted grandpup's, Romeo and Juliet; and many beloved fur babies.
A celebration of Janel's life will be held on Saturday, October 25th, at 12:00p.m., at the RSRPD Activity Center (4201 Guardian Street, Simi Valley, CA 93063). The family invites all who knew her to attend, and to share their favorite memories and photos.
Janel's love for her fur babies extended to a love for all animals. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Janel's memory to the following charities she supported:
