Janet Kay (Hutchison) Beasom was born on June 29, 1945, in Juniata County Pennsylvania to William Jonathan Hutchison and Florence May Reynolds. She was the 8th of their 9 children. Janet graduated from East Juniata County High School in 1963 where she was described as “always ready to help”. She completed the Chambersburg Practical Nursing program in 1965.
Janet told stories of growing up on the Meiser Farm and shared that she often prayed that God would provide her a husband and a little girl. She married Kenneth Earl Beasom on August 9th, 1968.
Janet worked as an LPN in her sister’s Meda Nipple Convalescent Home in Maze, PA, as well as several other care facilities. She and her husband Ken were active members of the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church and later the Millersville Brethren in Christ Church. And they were installed as a pastoral couple at the Blairs Mills Brethren in Christ Church.
Embodying “always ready to help”, Janet was an organ donor. She donated a kidney to her brother Donald Raymond when she was in her mid-30’s.
Janet and Ken moved to Oregon during a rainy fall in 1991. She continued to help others, working as a home health nurse for many years while living in Oregon. Although she was quick to say that her all-time favorite patient whom she took the best care, was her devoted and loving husband Kenny.
Janet was a devoted grandmother. Her house was always stocked with balloons, markers and other things kids love and she kept her jewelry box full for visiting grandchildren to explore. She was always up for a game of badminton or croquet or a walk to visit the nearby horses.
She would be pleased that October 27th was a sunny day in October when she passed, unlike the multiple days of rain when she first moved to Oregon in 1991.
Janet enjoyed long walks along country roads, and she made the best Apple pie.
She received care at a nearby hospital for a stroke she had in early October although it disappointingly only carried Pepsi products. She was pleased that her final days were in her Forest Grove, Oregon home where she lived for 31 years with her husband of 55 years by her side, and there was plenty of sun and Coca-Cola.
She was preceded in death by siblings Meda Margaret, Merle David, David Edward, Donald Raymond, Paul Edwin, William John, and Linda Ann. She is survived by sibling Charles Wesley Hutchison of Illinois. She is also survived by her husband Kenneth Earl Beasom, daughter Lisa Ann Waiwaiole, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
If you would like to donate in her honor, feel free to give to any local kidney association. There is no memorial service or celebration of life planned at this time. In lieu of a formal service, please hug your spouse, kids, or grandkids, go for a walk, or smell a flower.
