Janice Teal Trevathan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on January 7, 2025, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on October 1, 1946, in Jacksonville, Texas, Janice was a vibrant presence who touched the lives of many.
Janice’s educational journey began at Jacksonville High School, followed by her graduation from Stephen F. Austin University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and a Teaching Degree. This foundation paved the way for a fulfilling career that began in education, as she taught school for several years before embracing the role of a Domestic Engineer. Her professional path later led her to significant positions with the IRS, J C Penney Catalog Center, and the Round Rock School System, where she worked across several campuses.
Janice was known for her warm personality; she never met a stranger. Many would fondly reminisce about how she’d engage with anyone in line at the checkout, much to the temporary embarrassment of her young children. Her kind and giving nature extended beyond mere conversation; she was actively involved in her community, sharing her heart through charitable work and her beloved favorite causes. Janice had an undeniable passion for cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and generously sharing her culinary delights with friends and neighbors. Her extensive collection of cookbooks reflected her commitment to varying the types of food she served.
In her leisure time, Janice enjoyed a number of hobbies that brought her joy, including her cherished tea pot collection and a love for tea. She was also an avid collector of Boyd's Bears, a collection that she thoughtfully decided to donate to Dell's Children Hospital, showcasing her continual spirit of giving.
Janice was deeply proud of her family and their accomplishments, and she dedicated her time to various causes, including her service on the Round Rock Environment Committee, working to set up efforts to protect and preserve the local environment.
She is survived by her loving husband, Randy Trevathan; her two daughters, Amy Mitcham and her husband Chris Mitcham, along with their children, Becca and John, and Jennifer Hinger and her husband Chris Hinger, along with their son, Noah. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Parker, and her husband Joe Dan Parker. Terry Trevathan (brother-in-law} and Ronnie Trevathan {brother -in- law) and his wife Susie Trevathan (sister- in law).
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Opal Teal, whose legacy of love and care she carried throughout her life. Her memory will be honored and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
