Jay Randle Smitch, 85, of Globe, AZ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025 in his home in Globe Arizona with his Wife of 66 years, Nancy (Smith) Smitch by his side. Jay was born on December 24, 1939 in Clifton, AZ to JD and Rena (Bell) Smitch. He is survived by His wife, Nancy (Smith) his 3 children, Dain (Lillian) Smitch, Allen (Teresa) Smitch, and Cynthia (Doug) Henderson and honorary/bonus daughter Katy (Southard) Gerardo, 6 grandchildren Chad Smitch (Emily), Audrey Carranza (Jose), Evan Smitch (Deanna), Eric Smitch (Holley), Andy Henderson, and David Henderson (Mirishka). 10 great grandchildren Wyatt, Garrett, Charlotte, Hannah, Carson, Emily, Sidney, Tyler, Tony and Oliver (Ollie), with one granddaughter on the way, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jay was number 9 of 10 children, and the last surviving member of his siblings. He was proceeded in death by his brothers, David, Colin, Kent, and his sisters Charlotte Miller, Opal Cunningham, Margaret Trevellyan Trowes, Jettie Marley Mingus, Luetta Danforth, and June Knowlton.
Jay taught his family the love of God, Country and the great outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and time with his family. There are many great memories of sitting out in the carport listening to great music and enjoying the company of his large family and many friends. His tribute wouldn’t be complete without including the billiard lessons that each of the children received before they were allowed to play. Many hours were spent playing pool, listening to music, talking and laughing or having deep conversations about any number of subjects.
For the majority if his life, Jay worked as a mechanic for Kennecott, Pinto Valley, City Service and Sleeping Beauty. He shared his expertise with many young men.
Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 1PM at the Train Depot (230 S Broad ST), in Globe AZ.
