JEFFREY CHARLES HUNTER, 67, of Thousand Palms, California, passed away on March 20, 2024, at Eisenhower Medical Center.
Jeff was born on April 12, 1956, in Bowling Green, Ohio, son of the late Patricia Casper (née McCown, formerly Hunter) and Charles Hunter. He spent most of his childhood in Canton, Ohio, until his senior year of high school when he moved to California, graduating from Coachella Valley High School in 1974. He continued his education with drafting and engineering courses at the College of the Desert.
At the age of 22, Jeff purchased a tow truck and became a partner in Ron’s Towing. The business was founded in Thousand Palms, later moving to Palm Desert. Jeff also began getting involved with the Desert Chapter of the California Tow Truck Association (CTTA) to help further the interests of their industry. After almost 25 years in business, he sold his ownership of the towing company to his partner and served as the Executive Director of the CTTA for the remainder of his career, a role which he loved and spoke of fondly after his tenure.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jeff will be remembered for his adventurous spirit. He cherished family road trips, always opting for the scenic route, which was not always paved. He also enjoyed boating at the Colorado River with family and friends, allowing everyone to join in on his escapades. His love for adventure mirrored his approach to life - embracing challenges with unwavering determination and a wicked sense of humor.
Jeff’s interests were as diverse as they were meaningful. He most enjoyed collecting towing memorabilia and putting his engineering skills to good use by drawing up plans and completing projects for his family home, as well as assisting his friends and extended family with theirs. Whenever there was a project to be done, Jeff was always excited to get started.
Jeff is survived by his wife Melodie Hunter, daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Donald Martin, stepson Nathan Madlin, and grandchildren -- Hunter, Faelynn, Sophie, and Jackson. He is also survived by his siblings -- Christine Blunt, Susan Biebelhausen, and David Hunter. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Casper, father Charles Hunter, and stepfather William Casper.
While Jeff’s journey on this earth has come to an end, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him and the impact he left behind will resonate for generations through the memories held in their hearts. Rest in peace Jeff.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, 1:00 PM at Wiefels Chapel (690 S Vella Rd, Palm Spring, CA). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Kidney Fund in Jeff's honor.
