Jimmy R Hughes

Jimmy R Hughes, a beloved member of community and a dedicated truck driver, has passed away at the age of 74. Born on October 29, 1949, in Pisgah, Iowa, Jimmy spent his childhood in Magnolia, IA and Persia, IA. In his adult years, he lived in Council Bluffs, IA and Sun City, AZ. Jimmy's life was filled with hard work, love for his family, and a passion for exploring the open road.

From a young age, Jimmy's connection to trucking ran deep. He remembered driving as soon as his feet could hit the pedals. His career as a truck driver included hauling everything from hay to animals to gasoline. Throughout his life on the road, Jimmy demonstrated exceptional skill and commitment to safety, earning numerous safe driver awards and even being honored with the prestigious "Driver of the Year" award by Truck Drivers magazine. His dedication and expertise were celebrated within the trucking community.

Those who encountered Jimmy would often refer to him as a gentle giant. His towering physical presence contrasted with his kind-hearted nature, making him approachable to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. 

When he wasn't behind the wheel of a truck, Jimmy pursued two passions that brought him immense joy – cross-country motorcycle trips and exploring beautiful landscapes. He cherished the thrill of riding his motorcycle through vast stretches of land while appreciating the stunning scenery along the way.

In November of last year, Jimmy learned cancer had invaded his body. Despite this difficult news, Jimmy was able to spend both Thanksgiving and Christmas surrounded by family before peacefully passing away on January 6th near Sun City, AZ.

Jimmy leaves behind a heartfelt legacy and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Daria Hughes, and daughter, Jeannie Hughes. and numerous stepchildren and grandchildren living in both Iowa and Arizona. He was proceeded in death by his mother and stepfather, Margaret and Donald (Mike) Hughes and his father, Floyd Weed.

His dedication to his craft, his kind nature, and his zest for life are qualities that will forever resonate with those who had the privilege of knowing him.
