JoAnn's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of resilience and compassion. Her career path meandered through various roles where she shone brightly in sales, marketing, and Real Estate. Beyond her professional pursuits, JoAnn's true joy emanated from the simple pleasures of life. She was a culinary artist who delighted in preparing meals for loved ones during festive occasions.

A veteran of the US Air Force, JoAnn dedicated herself to serving her country with honor. Stationed at Clark Airbase in the Philippines and McChord AFB in Tacoma WA, her commitment and courage were unwavering – qualities that she carried into her personal battles against illness.

Known for her infectious smile and welcoming demeanor, JoAnn had a heart big enough to embrace everyone she encountered. Her fondness for human connection extended to a myriad of activities including knitting, sewing, boating, cooking, and gardening. Those who had the privilege of knowing JoAnn understood that her warm spirit left an indelible mark on their lives.

Among JoAnn's proudest accomplishments was her role as a devoted mother. She poured boundless love and dedication into ensuring the well-being and happiness of her children. Her tenacity knew no bounds as she strived to provide them with the best life had to offer.

On March 23, 2024, at her home surrounded by love, JoAnn peacefully bid farewell to this world after courageously battling her illnesses. Though she may have departed this earth physically, the memories she crafted and the love she shared will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew her.

JoAnn is survived by her beloved husband James Lyle Kagey, cherished son Gary L. Kagey, adored daughter Kristina A. Hernandez, devoted sister Donna Heidt, and dear cousin Sherry Canterbury-Schmidt. Through their shared grief and cherished memories, they will keep alive the legacy that JoAnn leaves behind – one of fortitude, kindness, and unwavering love.

In honoring JoAnn's memory, let us celebrate a life marked by strength in adversity and boundless love for family and friends. May she rest in peace knowing that she touched countless lives with her enduring grace.

There will be a Celebration of Life for JoAnn on June 15, 2024 from 1pm to 4pm at Totem Yacht Club (5045 North Highland Tacoma, WA 98407)
