With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John F Beasley, Jr. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on April 16, 2025. Born in El Paso, Texas on June 28, 1941, to John F and Nadine Beasley, he grew up in Alamogordo, New Mexico and personally witnessed the testing of the first atomic bomb in 1945. He was a graduate of Alamogordo High School, the University of New Mexico, and received an advanced degree from the University of Texas.
He devoted his life to teaching earth science and astronomy to high school and middle school students for more than 30 years in the state of Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially playing canasta, tending to his rose garden, and watching the Houston Astros, Rockets, and Texans.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jonnie Beasley; a son, John Beasley and daughter-in-law Katherine; a daughter, Jacinda Beasley Gunter and son-in-law James; six grandchildren, Kenneth Beasley and wife Daisy, Ashton Gunter, Avery Gunter, Kendyl Beasley, Audie Gunter, and Jackson Beasley; his sister, Suzanne Jones; brother-in-law Buddy Meyer and wife Sandy; and nieces Johanna, Jessica, Jenna, Mindy, and Misty.
He will be laid to rest in Boles Acres, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Astros Foundation.
