John Frank Cook Jr. passed away on Aug. 5, 2013. He passed away peacefully at the home of a friend in Cathedral City, CA. John was born on May 31, 1961 to John Frank Cook Sr and Mary Klyce Cook in Pampa, TX. John graduated with the Class of 1979 from Pampa High School in Pampa, TX.
Growing up John loved to play baseball and had lots of fun on his dirt bikes, winning many trophies for doing various things on the bike. John also enjoyed going fishing and after moving to California, he enjoyed playing golf with friends and meeting many of the pro golfers in the area.
John became a fireman for the Pampa Texas Fire Department after graduating from High School. John took several classes to benefit him while working at the fire department learning the Jaws of Life, CPR and E M T training. John (known as Johnny on the fire department) also served as a chief training officer making sure that each member was brushed up on their extrication techniques to be able to do their very best when in the field on an emergency. After leaving the fire department John worked as an auto salesman and manager at various businesses in Texas as well as in California.
John loved being able to help others find a car to meet their need. If there was a small dent his famous phrase was “oh it will buff out”. John was preceded in death by his grandparents Bertha Lorine (Walker- Shockley) Klyce & Matthew Cook. He is survived by Melinda Cook (John & Melinda were great friends even though they were in process of a divorce), his son Joshua Aaron Cook of Amarillo, TX; step-son Jason Velasquez and wife Charlene of Pampa, Texas; 2 step-grandsons, Jason Jr. and Julian Velasquez of Pampa, Texas; parents John Frank Cook Sr. of Pampa, TX., Mary (Klyce–Cook) Dreiling and husband Tom Dreiling of Kingman, KS., sisters Sue Cook Chandler and husband Brad Chandler of Wheeler, TX and Sharon Cook of Amarillo, TX, step children Vanessa Doreen Munoz, Anthony & Selena Munoz, Charlene & Michael Verdugo, step grand sons Aaron Joseph Schumacher Munoz, & Anthony Mendoza Munoz Jr as well as nieces, nephews and many friends as well as his special friend Jimmy (his dog) who he treated as if he was a son too.
A memorial service for will be held on Sept. 21, 2013 in Pampa, TX at 2 pm for John at Cornerstone Baptist Church located at 2410 West 23rd Street. Church is on NE corner of 23rd and Price Road.
