May 30, 1936 – August 15, 2025

Pop Pop passed peacefully on August 15, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of God, family, eclectic collection of friends, hatred of hats at the table, unique sense of humor, and contrarian nature.

John was born on May 30, 1936, in Salem, New Jersey, to John Clinton Norton Jr. and Anna (Nagurney) Norton. He was the oldest of five siblings (Harry, Ida, Mary, and Irene). He grew up in Philadelphia, where he met the love of his life, Rose Marie Conroy. They remained happily married for 68 years. He was the father of six, grandfather of 14, great-grandfather of 20, and great-great-grandfather of one.

He had a long and colorful career in construction as a draftsman, salesman, construction manager, and business owner. His career included many notable projects across the country, such as the Getty Center, Disney California Adventure, Arco Towers, and the Oral Roberts Prayer Tower.

Outside of work, John was an active parishioner at St. Polycarp Catholic Church and a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He proudly served in the Pennsylvania National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class, and remained active in many service organizations, including the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, and Lions Club.

John is survived by his wife, Rose; six children (Patricia, John, Michael, Catherine, Margaret, and Thomas); 35 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Ida; two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass to honor John’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 12 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, 8100 Chapman Avenue, Stanton, CA. The Rosary will be offered at 9:30 a.m., preceding the Mass. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery, 8301 Talbert Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA. Family and friends are invited to attend to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Life Center of Santa Ana or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to caregivers, friends, and all who have offered prayers and support.
