Jon "Vanilla" Akers passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home, that he shared with his beloved wife, in Cave Junction, Oregon on the afternoon of November 16th, 2022. Jon was born in December 1945 in Burbank, California to Irene and John and remained in California throughout many years of his life. He joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and served his country through the war in Vietnam. Jon always had a fascination and fondness for motorcycles, specifically Harleys. After returning home from the war, he found relief and freedom on the roads riding his Harley and a home with the Brotherhood that came with it.  Anyone that knew Jon knew that his bikes were not just a hobby or passion, but they were an attitude, a commitment, an expression, a community, a way of life.

He was an untraditional person who would want to be remembered as a man who took care of business, was dependable, and always had time to lend a hand or an ear and an opinion. He lived life with the understanding that the next moment is not guaranteed and made it known that no one should expect it to be. He lived each day to its fullest; he had the marks to show for it as well as the friendships and brotherhoods to match. He is a man that has lived more lives in his one lifetime than seems possible. He would say, "death is not the end, but the beginning of the next adventure", as he did enjoy the thrill of a good adventure. To honor him in his death, remember to not hesitate to show love and support for what you truly care about each moment you are blessed with.

Jon was different things to different people. Whether you knew him as Jon, Vanilla, Dad, Brother, Uncle, Friend, or Son; one thing he was to everyone was a great man. He was a devoted husband, a provider, wonderful father, good friend, and a protector, to name a few qualities. He had heart. Jon will be dearly missed and will always be loved and he will never be forgotten.

Jon is survived by his loving wife Linda, mother Irene, sister Sandra, five children, Simone, Erik (Melissa), Tonja (RJ), Tracy, and Troy, four grandchildren, Alicia, Vanessa, Axton, and Azzie, and one great grandchild Zonia. Jon is preceded in death by his father, John Akers.
