Jorge Gonzalez

Jorge G Gonzalez, 83, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on November 21, 2023 after a long illness. He always said he had a good life, and when asked, “How are you Jorge?”,  his answer was always, “Almost Perfect”.

Jorge was born on May 14, 1940 to Luis and Maria Magos Gonzalez in Mexico City, in the burrough of Coyoacan.  As a young man he studied acting at the University in Mexico City for a time during the 1960s.  He left Mexico coming first to the United States and then traveled on a Vespa throughout Europe before returning to New York.  He eventually moved to Texas, where he resided for 8 years working for himself in his construction business.  One day he left everything there, got into his van heading to Florida and took a serendipitous wrong turn on highway 10 landing himself in Santa Monica, California, where he soon met his wife Loretta (Lori) Ellwanger. 

Jorge was a manager for Bristol-Myers Squibb for many years. 

After retirement, Jorge and Lori enjoyed their time together in Jacksonville, Florida and New Jersey.  In later years Jorge acquired a wholesale business (EcumenicusUSA) where he imported and sold woven religious articles from Italy.  His amiable personality and generous spirit touched all who came into contact with him.  In 2012 they abandoned the snow of the Northeast to be near family and moved to the warmth of Las Vegas, Nevada where he continued his business. Jorge was great at fixing and building computers. Always enthusiastic about the latest and greatest computers and software. He was a talented carpenter, building many desks, bookcases, a Murphy bed, and a shed.  He enjoyed a martini, playing penny slot machines with a good cigar and playing cards at a friendly table.  

Jorge was predeceased by his mother (Maria), father (Luis), his brother (Luis) and two sisters (Josephina and Imelda).  He is survived by his wife Loretta and several nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on 1/20/2024 at 11:30am, followed by a mass at 12:00 noon.  There will be a celebration of life gathering at the home of Jorge and Lori following the mass.
